Knock Knock, Who’s There? – Bryan Hutson

I was born and raised in southern Indiana, and attended Negangard Corner Freewill Baptist. The church was located 3 miles south of Sunman, Indiana. My parents were married there, and the entire family; uncles and aunts, cousins, all went to “The Corner.”

A framed picture hung on the wall in the church. The picture was of Christ standing at a door; knocking. See, my history is of DRUGS. I was drug to church on Sunday, drug to church on Wednesday, so I saw that picture twice and week for 20+years.

It was only until recently that I saw that picture, REALLY for the first time.

In the painting, Christ is knocking on this door, and I noticed that there is no doorknob on the door. No doorknob? How can He come in with no doorknob?

But, there is a doorknob, but we can’t see it. It is on the OTHER side of the door.

The door represents our heart.
Revelation 3:20
“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”

So, the reason the artist failed to paint the doorknob where we couldn’t see it, was to show us, in order for Christ to come in, WE must open the door and let Him in. He won’t force His way in.

When I was a child I wondered why God just didn’t force us to serve Him? However, as I grow older, I KNOW why. I don’t want a friend out of obligation and neither does God. He wants us to serve, love and worship Him out of our love for Him.

He longs to meet our every need. His desire is to lavish His love on us; His children.

He also wants to be WELCOME in every room of our home. (life) We must allow Him access to our everyday life, money, raising our children, decisions, everything..

Christ still stands at the door and wants to come in.

Are you answering the door?
Prayer: “Father, I realize that you are waiting for me to allow you FULL access to every area of my life. Help me to open those doors so that YOU can make me more like your Son Jesus. In His name I pray. Amen.”
