The Walkers Celebrate 25 Years of Full Time Music Ministry

thewalkers2Perry, Florida (December 6, 2016) On November 16, 2016, Tate Music Group recording artists The Walkers celebrated their 25th anniversary in gospel music.  The Walkers started their journey that night in Dothan, Alabama and have been going strong ever since.

Group members at the time were Billy Walker, Sr., Geneva Walker and two of their children, Gail and Billy Jr.  Things stayed the same until an accident on the road took the life of Billy, Sr.  On January 1, 1994 in Blacksburg, South Carolina, The Walkers bus filled with carbon monoxide affecting all of the group members and taking the life of Billy, Sr.

The family regrouped during this difficult time and held things together.  Since the inception of The Walkers, they have grown their ministry from a small town group to a polished and professional product.  In the early days, they traveled primarily in Florida and South Georgia but soon expanded to the southeastern United States. Today, they travel to 44 states coast to coast and internationally as well.

In celebration of this event, The Walkers have released their latest album, Legacy.

Group manager Billy Walker, Jr. talks about Legacy, “In my opinion, this is without doubt our best album yet, and I am hearing that from people who have bought the album at our concerts, on iTunes, and from our record company’s website.  We had leaned a bit on the Christian country side and with great success on our last album, but on this album we are back home in southern gospel and it really shows.”

The first single off of Legacy is “God Of Promises.”  The song is already getting great response as reported by Vonda Easley of Hey Y’all Media.  It made its debut on SGN Scoops Top 100 at #84 and showed on the Singing News Top 200.  With the showing in Scoops, it was the 5th consecutive charting song between Christian country and southern gospel for The Walkers.

Looking back on the last 25 years Billy says, “We have been blessed and fortunate to be able to do what we love for so long.  It is the highest honor that God gave us a work to do and for all this time he has made a way time and again when it seemed that we would have to stop.  From the tragedy of the bus accident that took my Dad to bus break downs and financial difficulties, God has been with us each step of the way.”

Poised for 25 more years, The Walkers are more excited today about their mission than ever before.  If you would like to learn more about The Walkers visit www.thewalkersonline.com.

The Walkers

In 1991, the Walkers began a full time ministry that was primarily based in Florida and South Georgia. By the end of 1992 their territory had expanded to the 6 southeastern states of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and North and South Carolina. As time went on, word got out about a dedicated family that was spreading the Gospel through music and preaching and invitations starting coming from farther away. As of 2016, the ministry has expanded from coast to coast, ministering in 42 states and the nation of Canada.
