Crossroads Music Publishing Signs Young Writer Matthew Lawson

ARDEN, N.C. – (July 27, 2017) – Crossroads Music Publishing, home of Chris White Music and Asheville Music Publishing welcomes Matthew Lawson to their roster of writers. Matthew joins Dove Award recipient’s Dixie and Sharon Phillips, chart topping writers Sandy Knight, Regina Walden, Karen Gillespie, Ray Scarbrough and Rodney Birch, along with singer songwriters Mark Bishop and Daryl Williams.

Matthew states: “I am humbled to join the Crossroads family of writers. To be given such a wonderful opportunity at a young age is beyond inspiring to me. Greg and the rest of the staff have been very professional, uplifting, and have helped me grow business wise. I look forward to great things in the future.”

Greg Bentley, Director of Publishing for Crossroads adds: “Just like with artists, we are always looking for fresh new writers to add to our talented team. I started seeing Matthew’s name popping up on co-writes with Dixie, Sharon, and Karen. So, I started paying more attention to him. Matthew sent in some songs he had solely written and I was quite impressed that he has a good grasp on his craft at such a young age. He is like a sponge, wanting to absorb anything he can to make his writing even better. I look forward to working with Matthew for many years to come”.

Matthew has already had many cuts with artists such as The Lore Family, Jaidyn’s Call, The Griffith Family and others. We will surely be seeing his name pop up on more album credits in the coming years. For artist looking for new material to record, contact

Formed over 19 years ago by Deon & Susan Unthank originally as, the site was birthed from an email discussion group by the same name. The SoGospelNews email discussion list was created by the Unthanks after the Singing News shut down its extremely popular discussion list. SoGospelNews started as a simple webpage listing artists, fans, individuals, etc. that were avid supporters of the newly formed SoGospelNews talk list. The site eventually took on printing news for Southern Gospel artists, and eventually took on reviewing the latest recordings from both signed and independent artists within the small genre. SoGospelNews became the most viewed Southern Gospel website on the Internet with over 4,000,000 hits per month.

The Unthank family are now involved in the site, as well as the addition of over two dozen staff writers. The website is based out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In April 2010, SoGospelNews changed its name to The name change allows them to cover news items of not only Southern Gospel, but also Country Gospel, Inspirational, and Black Gospel.

On January 5, 2011, Susan Unthank passed away, leaving the website in control of Deon, their son, Chris, and their daughter Amy.
