Mylon Hayes Family – A Family Called to Serve

AGM staff writer Matthew Lawson got a chance to catch up with Wendy Hayes of the Mylon Hayes Family this month!

Matthew Lawson: Wendy, tell us a little bit about the history of The Mylon Hayes Family.

Wendy Hayes: Mylon sang with his family The Hayes Family for a little over 40 years until his dad passed away seven years ago. It was just a couple of months after his dad’s passing that we made our first recording. We wanted to capture our kids young voices on CD to preserve that precious time for us. Kennedy was 8 years old and Conner and Bailey were 12 years old at the time, but we could already see their love for the music and their love for the Lord was evident!

Our desire was to sing as a family one day but had no idea how or when that would happen. Soon after making the CD, God began to open doors for us to sing at some local revivals. Also, some radio stations began playing our music and many of our friends encouraged and helped us. Now, we look back and see how God orchestrated it all! He has truly been the one that has opened every door for us and provided. All the glory and honor goes to Him!

ML: As a mother, what is your number one goal in life?

WH: To point my kids to CHRIST and to give them a solid Christian foundation.

ML: Who are some of your musical inspirations?

WH: Growing up some of my favorites were The Rex Nelon Singers and The Talleys.

ML: You guys have a new mainline project that releases in the next few months. Tell us a little bit about the songs you selected, who produced the project, etc.

WH: Yes we are very excited about this new project! We had Cody McVey help us with the arrangements and orchestration and used Jeff Collins to produce our vocals.

We were blessed again to have had so many great songs pitched to us! We actually had a hard time narrowing them down! We have songs written by Rebecca Peck, Sandy Blythe, Marcia Henry, and Rachel McCutcheon. The whole process from beginning to end takes so much work, time and money but it’s worth it all when we see someone blessed by the music. Our prayer is that God will use the songs to minister to the hearts of the people who come to our concerts or purchases the project. The messages in the songs are strong and I can hardly wait to share them with everyone!

M: When you are not on the road ministering, what does a normal day in your life look like?

WH: Well, a day at home for me is spent doing laundry, homeschooling, housework, helping keep the office things done and being sure everyone is fed and happy! A mothers works is never done!

ML: Your children are a big part of your ministry. How does it feel to watch them serve the Lord with every ounce of their spirit?

WH: It thrills me to watch them serve the LORD! They have a sweet, humble spirit. To see their commitment to read the Word, pray and give their all to this ministry… it thrills me beyond words and makes me realize how truly blessed I am to be their Mom!

ML: What is one of favorite passages of scripture?

WH: Right now my favorite verses are Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
