Getting to Know Grant Gibson

AGM Staff Writer Matthew Lawson sat down with Karen Peck & New River’s Grant Gibson for a short Q&A!

Matthew Lawson: Grant, you have an impressive history in Southern Gospel music. Would you mind telling us a little bit more about who’ve you sung with and how God has blessed you in our industry?

Grant Gibson: Some people may not know, but I’ve actually been traveling since I was 18 years old and I’ve traveled with some amazing people. While most of my twenties I was actually singing more contemporary music, southern gospel has always been one of my favorites. Before traveling with Karen Peck and New River I spent five years with 11th Hour. We saw incredible growth during my tenure with the group to which I’m very proud to have played a small part in that. The last half year I’ve been blessed to be apart of KPNR and I’m having a blast. I couldn’t travel with any better people.

ML: You recently joined Karen Peck and New River. How has that transition been?

GG: In many ways it’s still very similar to what I was already doing. the transition has been really smooth and It’s been incredible just to sit back night after night and learn from someone whose been doing this as long as Karen has.

ML: Who are some artists/singers that inspire you to keep doing what you do?

GG: I’ve had countless people within the Industry side that have been constant encouragers to me… one thing that encourages me is seeing the faithfulness of many like Karen, Mark Trammell, etc. What we do isn’t easy, so, I have so much respect for those that have given the majority of their lives to honor God’s calling.

ML: Doing what you do for a living, most folks would assume singing the same songs night after night eventually “grows old”. That’s not exactly true in your case, is it?

GG: No! While some songs come and go, those songs that stick around never get old. You gotta do those songs that the people know you for. If New River were to be in concert and not do “Four Days Late” I’m almost positive a riot would breakout. :)

ML: What is your favorite song to sing on stage night after night, currently?

GG: I’ve actually got a couple: “The Reason” and “Blessed”.

ML: Do you ever see yourself doing anything else other than sing the Gospel?

GG: I honestly can’t see myself doing anything else. When I was in high school I made a promise to God that whatever plan he had for my life my answer would be “Here am I, send me” and that’s still the case.

ML: What is God currently teaching you in this season of your life?

GG: That He is faithful and that no matter the circumstance I can trust him. I’m the kind of person that I like a plan and I like to know what’s going on. In all honesty there have been certain areas of my life that haven’t gone the way I planned or hoped they would. I can say that looking back over my life that Jesus has never failed me!
