Sherry Anne - Keep On Prayin’

Producer: Gordon Mote
Label: Independent

This pivotal project from Utica, NY native Sherry Anne is an excellent mixture of style and arrangements on 12 solid songs. This is one project that Sherry Anne will be able to look back on and say, “That project was a career changer for me.” Sherry Anne is one of the most vocally talented up and coming soloists today. From the upbeat opener “God Made A Way” to the closing track, “Jesus, O What a Wonderful Child” you will be impressed and blessed with the clear vocals and uncomplicated, enjoyable arrangements. The opening track is one of my favorites, aside from the upbeat tempo the lyrics express to the listener the glorious way through Jesus Christ that God did make for us.

Track two on this project “Silent Prayer”, is a personal and testimony song for Sherry Ann, born with hearing loss in both ears along with a speech impairment, the lyrics “For God hears the sound - When leaf falls to the ground - Or a cry of despair - Though great or small - He hears it all - Even if a silent prayer” hold special meaning for Sherry.

Sherry knocks it out of the park on the classic, “God On The Mountain” made popular by The McKameys. Such a beautiful song about the faithfulness of our God, whether on the mountain or in the valley, in the day or in the dark of night He’s the same God faithful and by our side ALL of the time. The message in this classic song touched my heart when Peg McKamey sang it and even more so now, another one of my favorites from this project. Sherry shows her talent and various style on the bluesy/jazzy upbeat “Keep On Prayin’.” It is another favorite of mine! At this rate the whole project will be a favorite! This is one upbeat song that has a powerful message….don’t stop praying…keep praying until you get an answer.

We’re taken back in time with a country song made famous by The Judds, “Grandpa, Tell Me ‘Bout the Good Old Days.” In these uncertain days when we don’t know from one day to the next what will happen to the economy, our jobs, talk of war, it’s nice to set back and listen this cut and think back to the days when kids could play in their yards, or ride their bikes without worrying about strangers, when daddy went to work and mama took care of the kids. When families went to church and worshipped the Lord together.

We are treated to Sherry Anne’s song writing talented on the beautiful “I Only Know To Pray.” If you’re a parent and have watched your child grow up and go a different way than they were raised this song will speak to you, for you know as Sherry knows and says “And it really breaks my heart, to see this world pull you apart, Don’t know what I should do, but I’ll pray for you.”

As Christians we have a power at our disposal that often times we fail to realize or use but this next cut reminds us that all we have to do is “Speak Your Name”. “Lift Up The Name” is a beautiful song of praise and worship of our precious Savior, the power of the name Jesus to save and give hope.

I think sometimes we become complacent as Christians, we need reminded of what Jesus did for us, where He pulled us from, as the next song says we need to think and ask ourselves, “Where Would I Be” without Jesus and His life giving grace and mercy.

We can’t praise the Lord enough for what Christ did for us, we can’t ever worship Him enough this cut says what a “Wonderful Merciful Savior” He is!

The next track has special meaning as well, written and originally performed by Chris Tomlin; Sherry Anne does an amazing job on “I Will Rise (Kurt’s Song).”

There’s no better way to close out a project than giving praise to the One that made it possible and Sherry does just that with an upbeat medley of “Jesus, O What a Wonderful Child” and “Go Tell It On The Mountain”

This is the first time that I’ve heard Sherry Anne and I have to say I was NOT disappointed. What a talented singer, but more so what a wonderful Christian lady Sherry Anne is. Her love for the Lord comes through every cut on this album. She has a wonderful, moving testimony. This is a solid project that showcases her talent as a performer as well as a song writer.

My favorite songs are “God Made A Way”, “God On The Mountain”, “Keep On Prayin’”, “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout The Good Old Days)”, “I Only Know To Pray” and lastly “Lift Up The Name”. If you have never heard Sherry Anne, I urge you to grab this project and enjoy!
