Lindsey Graham Releases New Album I Lift My Voice

Dec 10, 2015
[{comment_tb_total}] Comments

Estero, Florida (December 10, 2015) Gifted musician and singer Lindsey Graham has released her new CD I Lift My Voice. Produced by Jason Webb and recorded in Nashville, Tenn, this new project is going to turn heads in the Gospel music world.

I Lift My Voice features eleven exciting songs including "Most Holy Lamb”, "A Little More Love”, and a Lindsey Graham original "God Declared You Holy”.

Describing the song penned by herself Lindsey explains, "This song was inspired by Beth Moore’s Bible Study on Daniel. If we are born again then God has declared us holy and expects us to live in such a way as to reflect His holiness. In our Babylonian-like culture God’s children are called to be in the world but not of it, living victorious and abundant Christian lives in the power of Christ Jesus. Where Satan cannot have your soul he seeks to make you ineffective for the cause of Christ. However, to this we may say, 'Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world!' It is from this perspective I wrote God Declared You Holy.”

Continuing about her new album Lindsey commented, "I am so excited about this album. So many exceptionally talented individuals participated in the making of this project and I believe it is reflected in the final product. Psalm 98:4 says, "Make a joyful noise to the LORD!” This album is an invitation for ALL to sing along, making a joyful noise of praise to the living God. I Lift My Voice for He is worthy”

Song List:

Most Holy Lamb

A Little More Love

Jesus Christ Is In This Place

God Declared You Holy

No Greater Song

Speak Your Name

Glorious Savior

More Than Conquerors

He Who Is Mighty

Heaven Bound

LaBreeska Hemphill Passes Away At 75

Dec 09, 2015
[{comment_tb_total}] Comments

LaBreeska Hemphill, beloved matriarch of the gospel singing family, The Hemphills, died Wednesday, December 9, 2015, in Nashville, TN at the age of 75.

Born in 1940 in Flat Creek, Alabama, a small coal-mining town, to Walter Erskine Rogers and Gussie Mae Goodman Rogers, LaBreeska made her entrance into a world of music singing with her family, the Happy Goodman Family, when at the age of 9, she appeared onstage at the Ryman Auditorium during the monthly “ all-night gospel sings.”

Due to her Christian upbringing and personal commitment, faith and values as well as the music of that faith, was a constant in LaBreeska’s life.

In 1957, LaBreeska married Joel Hemphill of West Monroe, LA and they became very active in the church Joel’s father pastored. Soon they began to travel and sing when Joel answered the call to ministry, evangelized briefly and settled down to pastor a church in the neighboring town of Bastrop, LA.

In 1966, Joel & LaBreeska signed their first recording contract as a duet with Canaan Records, a division of Word Records, the world’s largest music company at that time.

Mrs. Hemphill rose to prominence as a member of The Hemphills, ministering across the globe in concerts and revivals, and helped them achieve the status of a legendary Gospel group. A reviewer for the Washington Post attended one of their concerts in the 1970’s at Constitution Hall and wrote, “Mrs. Hemphill has a powerful and convincing voice and The Hemphills do not have one sit-still song in their repertoire.”

Garnering eight GMA Dove Awards, The Hemphills dominated the music charts in the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s – fueled by the emotive, strong vocals of LaBreeska Hemphill. For over 20 years, The Hemphills maintained an average number 8 song in Gospel music’s respected chart, earning 6 number one hits with the all-time greatest hit, “He’s Still Working On Me” which remained at No. 1 for eight consecutive months and was the song of the year for 1981.

LaBreeska was perhaps known most, musically, for the hits “I Claim The Blood,” “Grandma’s Rocking Chair,” and “Unfinished Task” – her soul-stirring voice touching the hearts of those listening.

In addition to her music, Mrs. Hemphill was an accomplished author of four published inspirational books, which were well received and life changing for many.

To know LaBreeska was to experience her bountiful expressions of love and happiness - spreading the joy of Jesus to each person she met. Whether on stage, at church or in the grocery store, LaBreeska would greet you with a smile and a kind, encouraging word.

“For over 50 years, my bride and companion, stood with me through ups and downs, joy and pain, tears and prayers, and I will miss her greatly,” said husband Joel Hemphill. “Although we have lost her earthly presence, I know I will see her again. I know where she’s headed, and that’s what counts! I love you, sweetheart, see you soon. You’ve finished well.”

The legacy of LaBreeska Hemphill will live on through her family – Joel Hemphill, Joel Hemphill Jr. (Joey), Trent Hemphill (Hemphill Brothers Coach Company) and Candy Hemphill Christmas (The Bridge Ministry / Resting Place Church).

In addition to her husband Joel, Mrs. Hemphill is survived by sister Jane Burks, brother Buddy Rogers, son Trent Hemphill and wife Bethni Hemphill, grandchildren William Hemphill, Madeleine Hemphill Shore and husband Caleb Shore; son Joel Hemphill Jr. (Joey) and wife Sue Ann Hemphill, grandchildren Taylor Hemphill Locke and husband Daniel Locke and Sarah Hemphill; daughter Candy Christmas and husband Kent Christmas, grandchildren Nicholas Christmas, Jasmine Christmas Brady and husband JonMichael Brady, and Joshua Christmas and wife Carrie Christmas; along with a host of nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and a multitude of music fans and friends across the world.

A celebration of LaBreeska Hemphill's life will take place this weekend in Nashville, TN and West Monroe, LA. Both services will be open to the public. Please see full details below:

Award-winning Country Duo’s “If I Needed You” Receives Nod for Best Country Duo/Group Performance

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—December 7th, 2015—Award-winning, husband and wife country music duo Joey+Rory received their first GRAMMY® nomination today for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. According to the announcement by The Recording Academy, the couple have been honored for their recording of “If I Needed You,” written by Townes Van Zandt and featured on their current project, Country Classics, A Tapestry of Our Musical Heritage (Gaither Music Group).

Inspired by songs from their childhoods and music that has shaped their relationship, the couple, long known for their inspiring love story and day-to-day farmhouse living, created their very own songbook of traditional American country music with this recording. In addition to the GRAMMY®-nominated selection, it includes songs such as “King of the Road,” “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,” “Paper Roses,” “I Believe in You” and “Coat of Many Colors.”

“Joey and I understand what it means to be included on the GRAMMY® nominations list that came out this morning - it’s the biggest of the big. And we’re honored and humbled to be lifted up by our peers this way, especially in a year with Chris, Kacey, Brandy, Ashley and others who are leading the charge to write and sing from their hearts, even if it costs them some airplay and takes them a little longer to get there,” stated Rory lFeekl in an interview with Cindy Watts at The Tennessean.

“Joey and I woke up this morning just thankful for the chance to have another day to be together. That was enough. When you honestly don’t know what tomorrow will bring, you don’t think any further than today.* But hearing the news this morning brought not only tears and smiles, it has brought us hope.

“That week in February is going to be a big week for us. Our new Hymns album comes out on the 12th; the GRAMMYS® are on the 15th; and our little Indiana’s second birthday party will be on the 17th. Joey set a personal goal this morning of being here for all three; and she’s so faith-filled and determined, don't be surprised if you see us sitting in the audience at the awards show, holding hands and smiling when they open the ballot and read the winner’s name.

“We have always loved that country music at its best is about songs that tell great stories. They’re usually stories told within the lyrics of the song. But this song, ‘If I Needed You,’ that Townes Van Zandt wrote years ago, tells a very different story--our story. And it’s a story that’s still unfolding today.”

Joey+Rory’s story includes a back home style of country music that has become a nationally known brand. The Academy of Country Music (ACM) Award-winning couple is widely known as the creators and hosts of “The Joey+Rory Show,” one of the highest-rated weekly programs on RFD-TV airing in 40 million households each week. The variety show is distributed to the DISH Network, DIRECTV, Comcast, Verizon FiOS TV, AT&T U-verse, Mediacom, Charter, Optimum, Brighthouse, Suddenlink, Time Warner, Cox and more than 600 independent rural cable systems.

The Country Classics CD and DVD have also been featured regularly on TV networks including RFD, PBS, DISH TV, DIRECTV, AT&T U-verse, TBN, Family Net, CTN, The Walk TV (formerly Legacy), TCT and TLN and also in Canada on Vision TV, CTS, Grace TV and the Miracle Channel. The DVD has been featured on Gaither TV (available on DISH TV, Roku, Google and the Internet).

The Country Classics (Gaither Music Group) DVD debuted at #1 on the BILLBOARD Music Video chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan, upon its release in 2014. Produced by Rory, the audio recording appeared at #2 on the Christian Country chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Country Classics is exclusively distributed by Capitol Christian Distribution and is available throughout general market stores and the Christian marketplace in addition to online retailers including iTunes, Amazon and The audio recording is available at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®.

The 58th GRAMMY® Awards will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA.

Dec 07, 2015
[{comment_tb_total}] Comments

The 12th Annual USAGEM Awards Show was held on Saturday November 21, 2015 at Texas Troubadour Theatre in Nashville, Tennessee. This yearly event is sponsored by the United States Association Of Gospel Entertainers & Musicians.
Mending Fences opened the show with the upbeat song “Get Up In Jesus’ Name”.

The Fox Brothers were the hosts of the show along with segment co-hosts Melanie Walker, Russ & Linda Murphy, Tommie & Dwayne Lewis, Mona Faith & Tank Tackett, Sheila Berry & Bruce Walker, and Southern Faith.

Rene Jones was the big award winner of the evening, garnering awards for Gospel Entertainer and Male Vocalist Of The Year. He also won the Video and Song Of The Year award for “Thank God For Mama”, a single he recorded with Joanne Cash Yates, and written by gospel music legend, Joel Hemphill. Another accolade was with his wife. Rene and Edie Jones garnered the Duo Of The Year award for the first time.

The Female Vocalist Of The Year Award went to Sandi Kay Shupe for the second time, and pianist Bud Rawls was the first time winner of the Musician Of The Year Award. Mending Fences, comprised of singers and musicians from the Nashville Cowboy Church, won the Vocal Group Of The Year for the first time.

Roy Fox was the recipient of the Comedian Of The Year and The Reed Brothers took home the award for New Artist Of The Year. Ann Hartmann once again garnered the Singer/Songwriter Of The Year Award.

The two and one-half hour show was intertwined with song performances and award presentations. There were several highlights during the show including a performance by Debbie Bennett and Peggy Inks. Their vocal collaboration tribute to Loretta Lynn and performance of “God Bless America Again” earned a standing ovation from the audience.

Another vocal collaboration that caught attention from the audience was a performance by Jim Sheldon & Rachel Taylor. They performed their chart-topping single, “New Again". The Gardners honored legendary gospel songwriter and their longtime friend, Carroll McGruder by performing McGruder’s penned upbeat song “It’s Too Good To Be True”. McGruder passed away earlier this year.

One of the emotional highlights of the show was The Fox Brothers’ acknowledgement of USAGEM artists and members who have passed away during the past year. Jimmy Jack Whitaker’s performance of “He’s Already Made It” was impeccably performed with only his vocal and acoustic guitar. Ed Suey, James Burns, Cheryl Jackson, Thelmarie Johnson, and Sladen Evans were deservingly honored and are truly missed.

A special performance by 9-11 first responder from the New York Fire Department, Frank Pizarro was a definite highlight. He performed a very moving song titled “He’s The Closest Thing To A Hero”. Pizarro is best known for his singing of the National Anthem during national sporting including the final baseball game of this year’s World Series games.

During the show, Randy & Wendi Pierce performed a gospel classic Rusty Goodman song “I Wouldn’t Take Nothing For My Journey Now” and Teresa Johnson performed a moving rendition of the Andre Crouch penned song “My Tribute”.

Other great performers on the show were Melanie Walker, Shelton Bissell, Glenn & Dottie Tubb, Rockin’ Reggie Vinson, Bev McCann, Ann Hartmann, Sandi Kay & New Hickory, and NYU Testament. The show finale was comprised of all of the artists, crew, and cast members performing onstage together. The song “Meet Me At The Pearly Gates” was written and directed by Daniel Johnson. Featured ensemble performers were Charlene Harrison, Cross Pointe, and Sandi Kay Shupe.

Some of the presenters on the show included; Cross Pointe, Brenda Ivey Robertson, Mariah Neff, Charlene Harrison, Marty Merchant, The Reed Brothers, Laura Mathy, Johnny Mack, Lisa Montgomery, David Smith, Margaret Anne Smith, Jeff Wisely, Cherie Brennan, and Julian & Bonnie George.
