The Angela Lilly Trio is a phenomenal trio based out of Hutsonville, IL. My family and I have sang with them before, and I remember them just blowing us away with the talents God has blessed them with. These people are the real deal and even better live than on CD. Haley Young, group member, wrote a good many of the songs on this project.
“Let’s Talk About Jesus For Awhile”, starts things off on a good note. Very nice. It’s saying from the beginning, it’s all about God. That’s awesome! One of Haley’s songs, “A Sweet Life”, brings things down to a medium tempo. I like how they ended on the seventh. “It Runs In The Family”, is a cool song. Great job on this song, guys! The pace slows down with, “Yesterday”. I like how they split up the parts coming in at separate times in the beginning. There’s a little too much reverb in the mix of this one, but Angela does a beautiful job on this song. This is a good, laid back song. Nice touch by adding a piece of “Something About That Name”, towards the end.
The pace picks up to a medium speed with, “There’s Still Power In The Blood Of Jesus”. James does a good job on the verses. Next is, “The Hand Of Hope”, an original by Haley Young. Great words and message in this song. “Temptation”, speeds things up. This is one of my favorites on the project. I love the track and the chord progressions in it. It’s great! The next two songs, “End Of The Rain”, and “It’s The Best Love Story” are two more originals by Haley. I love, “It’s The End Of The Rain”. It’s a neat tune and concept. The bridge is neat how they’ve got three different things going on at one time. I love that! “It’s The Best Love Story” is an upbeat song. I like it. “I Am Thine, O Lord”, ends up the project on a slow, jazzy note. This song is so pretty. Again, Angela does an awesome job on this song. The chord progressions are absolutely beautiful. They took this old hymn and completely made it their own. This is another one of my favorites. Awesome!
The Angela Lilly Trio have such tight harmony, being family. It’s hard to beat that family harmony, and I’m a little partial, being in a family group myself. If you haven’t seen them live, you need to. They’re even better live. They’re real smooth and right together. I love Angela’s voice. She’s got some really neat licks and runs when she sings. In my opinion, there’s a little too much reverb on the whole album, which make the vocals sound a little distant. Other than that, it’s a great project! I give the album 4 ½ stars. Keep it up guys! You’re awesome!
