Just had to say WHAT A CONCERT!!!

With 2500+ in attendance on the football field of Oak Grove Memorial Park in Bessemer, New Ground opened the program with a bang.  They came out on stage and were wide open from the word go.

Going into the concert you had the feeling that is was a split crowd (Southern Gospel fans / Contemporary Christian fans) but by the time New Ground was finished with their set….everyone was on their feet as one.  AMEN!!!  People might have come to hear Michael English but they left also being a New Ground fan.  Southern Gospel was well represented in Robbie, Dale and David as they held up high the standard of the southern gospel industry .

Michael came on stage opening up with a few SG favorites and only did one song from his latest project (Feels Like Redemption).  I have to say, he is singing better now than before because its coming form the heart.  He shared his testimony and in my opinion - he could be just as an effective in his speaking after getting more comfortable with it.  Talking was never his strong point but he is well on his way of changing that.

12 decisions were made for Christ - WHAT A MIGHTY GOD WE SERVE!!!!!

I’m glad you enjoyed the concert, newgroundfan!  I heard that New Ground was fantastic but the person I talked to didn’t enjoy Michael very much at all.  He said that Michael didn’t sing “I Bowed On My Knees” and he was very disappointed.  I’m a New Ground fan, too!!!

Would he have thought Michael did a good job if he had sung “I Bowed On My Knees?”  I recall a moment in the concert when Michael stopped what he was doing and explained how he had a song list but that he felt God was leading him into another direction.  It was at this point in the concert were he began to share his testimony.  So maybe that was one of the songs that was skipped.

I’ve been to a large number of Michael’s concerts over the years. Sometimes he has sang I Bowed and other he has not. How good a concert is doesn’t depend upon an artist doing a particular song.

I agree.  Whether the concert is good does not necessarily depend on the song selection.

Wow, sounds like a great concert.  My parents’ were in attendance, I will be talking to them later today to get their take on it.  My stepmom had told me about the concert and she was looking forward to attending.

I agree.  Whether the concert is good does not necessarily depend on the song selection.

Perhaps not in this case (I wasn’t there), but when I go to a concert where someone has had a lot of popular, chart-topping hits that are “signature” songs and doesn’t sing them, it can be a disappointment.  Rick Nelson had a hit in 1972 with the song “Garden Party”, which was his response to being booed off the stage at Madison Square Garden because he didn’t play the familiar tunes.  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garden_Party_(Rick_Nelson_song)

If I go to a ticketed concert, it’s natural to go in with some expectations.  On the other hand, if the singing is part of a church service I have to leave my expectations at the door.

There’s seldom a day goes by that - even at MY age - I learn something new!  I LIVED thru the early Rick Nelson years, and have never heard the story of “Garden Party”!  Just think - I learned about a pop song on a southern Gospel message board!  LOL

As much as it kills me to say this….let’s face it.  New Ground right now is on FIRE!  They seem unstoppable!  There’s no telling how long it takes them to bust SG wide open.  Robbie, you can pay me later LOL
