Gospel Music Great Joe Moscheo Passes Away

joemoscheo Gospel Music pianist, performer, producer, and industry professional, Joe Moscheo, 78, passed away around 10PM last night, January 11, 2016 in Nashville, Tennessee. For the past several years, Joe had suffered from a degenerative neurological disease.

Moscheo was an industry professional working in many areas of the Southern Gospel genre, as well as a popular pianist and music arranger and producer. Joe started his career with the Harmoneers in 1960 and later joined The Prophets Quartet in 1962 as their pianist and arranger. From there Joe joined The Imperials in the late 1966 and later toured with Elvis Presley for several years as a member of The Imperials.

Joe Moscheo was a great musician, but also a songwriter, producer, and manager. He produced several Elvis Presley recordings, and worked with many well-known artists like The Judds, Pat Boone, Bebe and Cece Winans, and Michael English. After retiring from the performing scene, Joe continued in the music industry, working for BMI and NARAS.

Joe Moscheo was inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2007. He was a past president and permanent board member of the GMA.

Joe had a smile on his face every time you saw him and was always ready to talk about Gospel Music with you. Please keep Joe’s family in you prayers. He will be missed greatly.
