You Probably Won’t Like This – Deon Unthank

What I’m about to say is not going to be popular, and probably won’t get a lot of “Likes” on Facebook, but, I’m tired of arguing with people on the internet about what’s wrong with Hillary and what’s right about Trump.

Here’s something hot off the press. It’s not going to be Hillary or Donald who can turn this great Nation around. Illegal aliens aren’t the problem, abortion is not the problem (I never thought I would hear myself say that), government spending isn’t the problem, in fact racial tension isn’t even the problem.

I hear ministers say, “it’s a sin problem”, and it is… sorta. But… there’s a whole lot more to that sin than just calling all Democrats sinners. There’s a whole lot more than saying “if you’re a Republican and a Christian how can you be against abortion yet support the death penalty?” That’s all smoke and mirrors.

It’s been several years since I’ve seen these statistics, so it’s probably worse now than it was 5 or 6 years ago. The last time I saw the statistics of Christianity in America the numbers were 75% of Americans claimed to be Christian. On any given Sunday you could find 25% of the people in church, but the reality is that only 8% of the people who claim to be Christians actually have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. As I look at our Nation today, I can guarantee that it is worse now. As much as it hurts me to say this, we are not a Christian Nation. If you truly go back an read the writings of our Founding Fathers you will clearly see that their intend was for this to be a Christian Nation. We were to be a bight light shining from a hill, and we were for a while. The Puritans cried out to God for this Nation, but they also cried out to the leaders running this Country calling out sin and pressing on for Revival. God was in this Nation.

America did some terrible things. The way we treated our American Indians was disgraceful, as was the way we treated the Black race with slavery and keeping them in poverty. However, America was a bright light in the world during World Wars I and II, and she has stayed a close ally with the nation of Israel.

Through the 20s and 30s there was always a strong presence of God in this Nation. Church history tells us of how the Spirit of God would move and Baptist, Methodist, and even the Presbyterians would shout praises to God, often so moved by the Spirit that they would run in the aisles or wave their hands in the air, and that doesn’t include how excited the Pentecostals got. Oh how I long for a move of God like that again.

In the 40s life was hard, but people still hung on to their faith in God. Churches were still full on Sunday mornings. In the 50s I can remember the brush arbor meetings and the huge tents where communities would gather for revival, and again the Spirit of God would move in mighty ways.

Then the 60s came and the young people discovered drugs and alcohol, and with these came a “sexual revolution”. Some would refer to this as a time of spiritual rebellion. Whatever you want to call it, it was the top of the slippery slope that we have been sliding down now for nearly 5 decades.

Now we are at a position as a Nation that God just might be seeing another Sodom and Gomorrah. This finally brings me to where I am today. Why aren’t Preachers today preaching against sin. What brings revival? When preachers preach against sin. Preachers are our spiritual barometer.

Man is torn between two parts. There is that carnal man who wants to do whatever feels good. Remember that slogan “If it feels good do it”? That’s exactly what our physical man wants to do.
We also have the spiritual man who longs to live pleasing to God. If there is no man of God to reign in the carnal side of man, he will wander in that sinful side and his conscience will be seared so that he actually believes what he is doing is right. That’s where we are today in America.

If preachers will search the Word of God, and preach repentance, we will see revival and possibly America will have one more chance to be that shining light on a hill for all the world to see.

We have seen that this “God is all about love” message does not work. Yes, God is about LOVE, but He’s also about obedience and following His Word.

My kids have not seen the Spirit of God move like He did in the 50s. It’s not something you can explain, it’s something you have to experience.

So, let me get back to my topic. Only revival will change this Nation to be great again. So, I want to let you in on another secret. Church, it’s not the ole sinner out there who needs to be revived. He doesn’t even know he needs to be saved from anything yet. Saving this great Nation has to begin in the Church.
It has to begin in the Baptist Church, and the Methodist Church and the Nazarene Church and the Presbyterian Church and the Lutheran Church, and even in the Catholic Church. I know I missed some, so let me say it this way. It has to begin in YOUR church.

If your Pastor isn’t preaching against sin, then he is not looking out for you. Preaching against sin is for the Church, not the sinner. Preaching that a man is eternally separated from God is for the sinner and then it’s up to the Holy Spirit to convict them, not you.

I will say it one more time in case you didn’t get it the first time. It will not be Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump who turns this Nation around. It has to be the Church. If you want a minority to get behind, look no further than those 8% who are actually Christians. It won’t be the 75% who say they are Christians. It won’t be the 25% who say they attend church. It is going to be the 8% who really have a relationship with Jesus Christ who will turn this Nation around. So, if you’re an 8%er, we have a job to do and time is running out to get hat job done.

Don’t get me wrong, you have an obligation to this Nation to use your privilege and vote. Make sure you vote, but also make sure you fast and pray and seek Gods face. That’s what will bring revival.

2 Chronicles 7:14
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
