John 4:11-14 … “The woman said to Him, ‘Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do you get that living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?’ Jesus answered and said to her, ‘Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.’

History documents many amazing feats and accomplishments of humankind. These accomplishments serve to stimulate the intellect of men. Seven of these noted accomplishments are listed as “Wonders of the World.” They are known as such primarily because of the time in which they existed. Before technology was even a word and science even existed, man was able to create pyramids, statues, and gardens that boggle the mind of scholars. Books record the amazing dimensions of the pyramids of Egypt, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, and other well-known wonders. There is a particular wonder, however, that defies description and fascinates imagination—the well of water springing up into everlasting life. It has never been replaced because it never grows old; it has never been repaired because it has never been broken; it has never been polished because it has never lost its attractive glimmer; it has never been forgotten because someone finds it for the first time every day; it has never gone without notice because every man must pass by it at least once in his life; it has never known the limitations of a man-made product because it was hewn out by the hands of God himself; it is not confined to one earthly spot on the globe, but it is found in every continent, located in every country, and placed in every city, hamlet and village; it is distributed in every heart that has ever named the name of Jesus Christ!

Grace is all that explains how its sweetened waters combat the bitterness found on the parched lips and blistered tongue of humanity. One small drop of water from this well satisfies the enormous thirst of a covetous soul that has sipped too often from the broken and dirty cisterns of the world. The source is a bleeding side belonging to the Son of God, suspended between heaven and earth on a cross where blood and water came pouring forth. The course is through the valleys and over mountains. It flows through the city ghettos where, in a storefront mission, someone sings, “There is a fountain filled with blood.” It flows as well through sparkling corridors where the rich and famous ponder their wealth. The force is the Holy Spirit sent from God out of heaven!

To try and remove this force would be like trying to soak up a river with a sponge; to try and remove this force would be like trying to pluck a star from the sky to use as a table decoration … it cannot be replaced or ignored.
