Dat Ain’t No Batman – Bryan Hutson

Recently I was leaving the grocery store when I saw a 20 year old man wearing a t-shirt that read “Just because you live in Gotham, doesn’t mean you are Batman.”

In case you aren’t a comic book person, Gotham is the fictional city where Batman lives. By the way, Batman is a fictional character. Ha.

I studied on the statement of that t-shirt all the way home. So, I’ve decided to take it one step further.

“Just because you live in Gotham, wear a utility belt and play in the dark, doesn’t mean you are Batman.”

In other words..”Dat Ain’t No Batman!”

From a spiritual standpoint, we could say this… “Just because you go to church, wear a cross necklace and can quote the Bible, doesn’t mean you are a Christian.”

It’s truly not about what you DO or what you WEAR or even who your friends are.. Being a follower of Jesus begins in the HEART.

1 Samuel 16:7 “But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

The Lord looks on the heart.

I’m a firm believer that when God changes the heart of a person, the Holy Spirit will reveal those outward signs that needs changed.

Again, it’s not about what we can do, it’s about what Christ has ALREADY done on the Cross-FOR US.

God wants us to be more like His Son; Jesus.

Will we always get it right? No, but that should be our desire to be more like Jesus.

Are we truly praying daily for God to change our hearts? I know I am guilty of not doing that. Lord, forgive me.

Psalm 139:23- 24 “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Be encouraged that God wants to fill your heart with His Spirit today.

Prayer starter: “Heavenly Father, I thank You for loving me the way You do. I pray that if there is any offensive way in me, to reveal that to me so that I might be more like Your  son Jesus. Help me to be submissive so You can change my heart. In Jesus name. Amen.”
