Johnny Minick and the Stewart Brothers Introduce Western Gospel Music to the World on Debut Spring Hill Records Release

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (January 17, 2018) – Gospel icon Johnny Minick and Spring Hill Music Group have partnered together to introduce.a new genre of music to the world. Western Gospel will officially make its way into the hearts of listeners with the debut of Johnny Minick & the Stewart Brothers.

The self-titled debut release finds the group shifting stylistically to the Western sounds of the 1950s and 1960s. The sweeping orchestral arrangements paired with the enthusiastic vocal arrangements hearkens back to a time when Western music was in full swing on television, movies, and radio.

Johnny Minick stated, “Gospel Music has explored just about every genre of music I can think of. Southern Gospel, Traditional Gospel, Inspirational, Rock, Bluegrass Gospel, Rap, Contemporary, and it’s neat to see all the genres come together under Gospel Music. We are adding something brand new to this mix,,,,, Western Gospel. We are excited about this new adventure.”

The debut recording finds the trio putting a western swing on classics like “I Am Bound For The Promised Land,” “This Little Light Of Mine,” “It Is No Secret,” “I Saw The Light,” “Just A Closer Walk With Thee,” and “Until Then.”

The website is based out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In April 2010, SoGospelNews changed its name to, allowing the site to cover Southern Gospel, but also Country Gospel, Inspirational, and Black Gospel.

On January 5, 2011, Susan Unthank passed away, leaving the website in control of Deon, their son, Chris, and their daughter Amy. Deon passed away on December 17, 2022 right after arranging the sale of the site to good family friend Bev McCann. The site is now rain by Bev McCann and the Nashville 37201 media group. Deon & Susan's son, Chris Unthank, is the site's editor-in-chief.
