The Clothes Line – Bryan Hutson
When I was growing up, the Hutson family had a outside clothes line.
I was never usually asked to “hang up” the freshly washed clothes, but Mom did have me take the dry clothes off the line. She always told me “Make sure the clothes pins make it back on the line. ”
On occasion, while driving across the country, I’ll see a clothesline. It makes me smile to remember life when I was a child.
Today, there’s a different kind of clothesline where people air their laundry.
It’s called social media.
People use their social media accounts to talk trash about the government, their employers and their family. What I really LOVE (sarcasm) is when they are talking about YOU, but use general, blanket statements.
What does the Bible say about airing our grievances?
Matthew 18: 15-17 “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.”
1 John 3:17 “But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?”
Pastor James McDonald says “Even if you have been wronged, even if someone has come at you in hurtful ways, bow in silence, commit your way to the Lord and wait for His deliverance. Be as public as you want about your own sin and relational shortcomings, but NEVER about another’s.”
